Artist's Description

This painting is the story of an under painting that declared itself the painting. Like a message from the subconscious mind, a wounded soul appears whose eye is hidden; covered up, then found sitting somewhere totally different that it would normally be. Upon further observance, the viewer discovers a child in the lower portion of the painting, holding a lantern and pointing to the area where the eye is missing. Obviously this "inner child" wants us to know, to notice. Then as the viewer gazes further...a tiny bird sits at the woman's mouth. Interesting as the artist identifies herself with birds. A sign of wanting to be heard as well. Much to ponder in the journey of the soul...

About Denise Hoag

Denise Hoag

She says: "Being free to paint feels like a bird being let out of a cage." So she freed her parakeets and they fly free with her in "The Soaring Peacock Studio". There she also shares her love with children teaching them Art and encouraging them to explore their creativity. Denise lives in Sherwood Park, AB with husband Chad, daughter Amanda, three cats & four...
